What’s in a Name ?

by Ed Marlowe ~ March 23rd, 2008.

Our name, Paddlewheel, originated 30 years ago when the business was established by the original owner, Paul D. Buhrke, in a tiny building in the historic district of downtown Wilmington. No more than a single room, this structure was once the ticketing office for steam-powered paddleboats which traveled the Cape Fear River when rice, cotton and navel stores were the main exports at extensive wharfs along the waterfront.
